Cosmetic Skin Lesion Removal

Safe, precise treatment with radiofrequency (RF) technology

At The Christchurch Doctors, we offer advanced removal of benign raised skin lesions such as moles, skin tags, seborrhoeic keratoses, cherry angiomas, and similar growths. We use the Soniquence radiofrequency (RF) device, a state-of-the-art system that allows highly controlled treatment with minimal downtime.

How It Works

Radiofrequency energy gently cuts and coagulates tissue at the same time. This means:

  • Precise removal of the targeted lesion
  • Minimal bleeding during treatment
  • Reduced heat spread, helping lower the chance of scarring
  • Quick recovery, with most people returning to normal activities the same day

Procedures usually take 15–30 minutes, depending on the number and size of lesions.

Consultation first

Your doctor will first assess your skin to confirm that the lesion is benign (non-cancerous) and suitable for RF treatment.

If there is any concern about skin cancer, we may recommend:

  • Biopsy (taking a small tissue sample)
  • Full excision with pathology testing

This ensures your safety and that no suspicious lesions are treated inappropriately.

What to expect

  • Before treatment: Your skin will be numbed with a small amount of local anaesthetic.
  • During treatment: The lesion is carefully removed using the Soniquence device.
  • After treatment: A small wound or scab will form, usually healing within 1–2 weeks.
  • Recovery: Most people can resume normal activities immediately.

We will provide clear after-care instructions to support healing and reduce the risk of infection or scarring.

  • Quick procedure
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Little or no bleeding
  • Lower risk of scarring compared with older methods
  • Can be used for a wide range of benign lesions

As with any medical procedure, there are some risks. These may include:

  • Mild pain or swelling after treatment
  • Temporary redness or crusting
  • Changes in skin colour (lighter or darker patches)
  • Scarring (rare but possible)
  • Recurrence of the lesion in some cases

We will discuss these with you at your consultation so you can make an informed decision.

RF removal is suitable for most healthy adults with benign skin lesions. It may not be suitable if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are on certain blood-thinning medications
  • Have a lesion suspicious for melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, or squamous cell carcinoma
  • dark skin tones

Your doctor will guide you on the safest option for your skin.

Pricing depends on the number, size, and complexity of the lesions, and this is always discussed clearly at your consultation. As a guide, our pricing is significantly lower than most cosmetic clinics because we do everything onsite and keep overheads low.

A cosmetic skin check or consultation is $90. If a single small lesion is suitable for removal at the same appointment, the total cost is $280 (consultation + removal).  For larger or multiple lesions, costs increase depending on the time and complexity involved.
